There are two types of writing I enjoy: Writing that conveys ideas clearly and simply and writing that appears effortlessly clever.
Sometimes you find both.
I ran across some of the “effortless clever” today on a couple blogs and I wanted to share a couple of lines from them with you:
Stolen from Rachael:

At Second Street we slipped into the obese crowd.
The pearl among the swine of days.
All is perfectly not right with the world.
More Rachael:

Jesus wept. Okay he actually got pissed off and whacked, but you get the idea.
Stolen from Laurie:

If the world is a stage, then I am Shylock in the middle of my sililoquy and my costume is (unbeknownst to me) partially stuck in my ass.
A blog, I am convinced, is the Schwab’s Drugstore of the new millenium.
True bliss had been fleeting; appearing infrequently. Like ”Brigadoon”, a village that magically appears on the horizon every 100 years–sans Gene Kelly’s pas de deux across a Hollywood sound stage, of course.
Check your work. Use your cosmic spell check. Just think how different Lech Walesa’s life would be if he could’ve spelled “solidarity” correctly

I’d start with the Bible, but that’s just me.
Just kidding…
There are two things people write about (sometimes they end up being the same thing, but not normally.)
First, they write about what they want to write about. That’s easy, you just begin where you want to begin and say what you want to say.
Second, they write what people want to read. This is much harder.
I am assuming you want to write something people will actually read. So, why not ask on your blog what people are interested in reading? At least then you’ve got an instant readership. To be popular you will need to make it unique in some way: Either a new viewpoint not previously known to your readers or humor or some other unique twist.
Selling your work to a publisher is a little harder, but can be done if you have a good following and premise.
Selling it yourself (self-publishing) can be easier, especially if you target search terms without too much compeition online. With Bible studies that may be a little harder–you want to look at what people are already looking for then fit your writing topic to those terms.

hmm, i already know what i want to write about and have set in motion the actual study to be the basis for the book.
proverbs 31. *tough*
but there is not many studies out there for it and the books are pretty fluffy (to me, anyway)
i’m hoping for a focus on honesty, humor, but can’t think of an unique twist, maybe it will come to me.
we start the study next weeek, and im working on questions and background stuff now. i may know someone, locally, who can help with the publishing, who has already published books.
they will be participating in the study. will be taping the studies and getting them dictated [dicatation] on paper.
anything else you can think of for me?
and yes, it will be inductive BIBLE study.
how is it going over there, its been quiet on your front…..

I didn’t connect this comment with your recent one about finishing your study of Proverbs 31. Did you write it up in a book form? Do you have it? Can we read it?
Just asking.

im not quite sure what to do with it now. i have all the paperwork and background info. and tapes of the bible study.
I really dont know what to do now. i was thinking of getting the tapes transcribed by a friend of mine. then… i dont know.

Hey Kris,
You can get them transcribed, but you can also make the audios available as a download with a study guide. You can even create the study guide as a power point and use something like Camtasia to create a video with the slides and audio together.
Either way once you get it all into digital form I can show you how to position it on search engines so people will find and download your studies.
